As we move into a new decade, we’re seeing a return to a classic, traditional design style. Of course, today’s new home buyers, Generation Z born between 1997 and 2012, may have something to do with this style shift.
All of the younger generations’ styling aesthetics are unique and have bold statements of individuality. Many of them are embracing classic styles more, with added modern twists to create the perfect home.
Here at Staged Interior, our inventory allows our team of home stagers to design a style that not only fits the architectural style of the property, but showcases a lifestyle that a wide range of today’s home buyers are looking for.
CEO and Co-Founder, Trish Kim, was the team leader on this home staging project in McLean, VA. This exceptional six bedroom, seven full and one half bath brick colonial required innovative furnishings to showcase the function and personality that this home had to offer.
While traditional furnishings work well in colonial properties, oftentimes they feel rather heavy, dark, and dated. In contrast, more modern styles have clean, exciting lines, but they can sometimes be a bit too stark, colorless, or linear for older homes. Luckily, there’s a way to merge these two styles: the “neo-traditionalist.” This blend of old and new celebrates the best of each, creating a look that is both timeless and timely.
Notice the detail on the furnishings Trish chose: tufted sofa backs, piping cushions with a few fringed pillows and a nailhead ottoman. Warm wood tones throughout define the traditional style, while the modern patterned rug sets the scene for this twist. This style mixes old with new to help tell the story of what this classic home could be.
In the master suite, we chose lighter woods and a natural fiber headboard to reflect this updated look. Our team used a bold royal blue to create one cohesive look that connects the sleeping area with the seating area. On the bed, the Greek key trim is a classic embellishment, but when paired with crisp white bedding and modern table lamps, this bedroom is ready for both younger and older generations.
